The Atlantic’s Alexis Madrigal published some of his iPhone tracking data. I could see this becoming a really awesome Feltronian life tracking application. I want to see a years worth of my travels plotted on a map. Daily commutes, road trips, and vacations all sprouting from a central location like the tentacles of an octopus. No check-ins needed.

It’s very simple. If there are more than five bikes at one of these bike stations the relevant LED comes on. It’s a glanceable guide to which way to walk when we head out. It’s going on the wall by the door. No need to reach for a device, launch an app and navigate to our favourites.
I want one that will display the routes I take to work with LEDs that indicate traffic congestion.
I was looking at these fantastic maps posted by Ace Jet 170 and it reminded me of the latest Radiolab podcast.
It was about a woman who was having horrible seizures. To stop them she had part of her brain removed. It worked, but the part of her brain that was cut away controlled her ability to read maps (among other things). When she looks at maps she just sees abstract lines and color formations.
My couple sentence synopsis does the story no justice, you should really give it a listen and also look at these maps.
I would love to see this map hanging on my wall, but at $670 I think this will have to do:

In the past 15 years, the Davenport, Wash.-based National UFO Reporting Center has collected more than 30,000 reports of UFO sightings through its hotline and Web site. The following three maps visualize that rich history.
I like the map that shows “sightings per capita in every county.” We only got 4 sightings per 100,000 in my hood, I was hoping for more.
