As metropolitan regions continued to expand throughout the second half of the 20th century their boundaries began to blur, creating a new scale of geography now known as the megaregion. Interlocking economic systems, shared natural resources and ecosystems, and common transportation systems link these population centers together. As continued population growth and low density settlement patterns place increasing pressure on these systems, there is greater impetus to coordinate policy at this expanded scale.

I saw this photo of a hole by Daneil Augschöll and it reminded me of an old TV show I saw. In the show a pit opens up outside a small rural town. Smoke bellows forth, odd sounds emanate, animals act crazy around it. The townsfolk decide to lower a man down into the pit to check it out. After he furiously tugs on the rope they pull him back up. He runs away screaming. Whatever was in the hole drove him mad. End of story.

For the life of me I cannot think of what show it was on. For some reason I think it was a re-enactment type mystery show (e.g. In Search of … or Unsolved Mysteries) but it was so long ago I can’t remember. At least I know I’m not too crazy since someone else saw the same show. Any ideas?

I really dig Springfeild Punx’s Simipsonification of the Ghostbuster characters. Kinda related is BLDGBLOG’s idea for the next Ghostbusters movie.
